Niagara Falls, ON – To facilitate a safer and more enjoyable environment for all guests visiting Niagara Falls on New Year’s Eve, Niagara Parks, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls, announces planned road closures throughout the core tourism areas surrounding the Falls.
On Sunday, December 31, the Niagara Parkway will be closed to vehicular traffic from Clifton Hill to Fraser Hill, beginning at 7 p.m. with a full road closure in place by 8 p.m. Clifton Hill from Victoria Avenue to Falls Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 7 p.m. with a full road closure in place by 8:30 p.m. Murray Street from the Niagara Parkway to Fallsview Boulevard will close beginning at 9 p.m. with a full closure in place by 10 p.m.
All road closures will be at the discretion of the Niagara Parks Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service and timing may be adjusted as required. In the case of inclement weather or visitation levels being less than anticipated, the road closures will be modified or cancelled.
By closing these roadways to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will have better and safer access throughout the core tourism area during holiday celebrations that typically bring higher visitation to Niagara Falls. This will also assist Niagara Parks Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service in managing the area, as well as providing controlled access for emergency services.
Parking
Parking will still be available at 4943 Clifton Hill VIA Oneida Lane.
Public Transportation
During the road closures, the WEGO Green Line will continue to operate from Rapidsview to Table Rock. While the Niagara Parkway will be closed to vehicular traffic, Niagara Parks plans to continue to operate the WEGO Green Line throughout Queen Victoria Park, at the discretion of the Niagara Parks Police Service, to connect to the GO Train / bus station. Service may be disrupted as required to manage congestion.
WEGO Red Line and Blue Lines will move to reduced routing due to the road closures and there will be no service to Table Rock and Clifton Hill after 5 p.m. to the end of the daily schedule. Service delays and disruptions should be expected for any routes travelling through the tourism area. For up to the minute bus arrival information please download and refer to the “TRANSIT APP”.
The Falls Incline Railway and WEGO Green Line will operate until 1 a.m. to assist guests travelling to the core tourism area of Queen Victoria Park to ring in the new year and view the fireworks displays over Niagara Falls at 8 p.m. and midnight.
